SUM two separate ranges
In G2, add up Rent and Fun for both months. They are not next to each other, so give SUM two ranges separated by a comma.
| A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Month | Rent | Food | Travel | Fun | |||
| 2 | January | 900 | 350 | 120 | 80 | |||
| 3 | February | 900 | 410 | 60 | 150 | |||
| 4 | ||||||||
| 5 | ||||||||
| 6 | ||||||||
| 7 | ||||||||

Why this works
SUM takes several ranges, separated by commas. B2:B3 is Rent and E2:E3 is Fun, so Food and Travel in between are left out.
Common mistake: Selecting B2:E3 in one go. That also adds Food and Travel.
The answer
- G2
=SUM(1B2:B3,2E2:E3)
In plain words: Add up 1the rent in B2:B3 and 2the Fun spending in E2:E3.
