Why this works
MONTH returns the month of a date as a number from 1 to 12, so Mar 15, 2024 gives 3. YEAR and DAY work the same way for the year and the day. With a Month column you can total each month with SUMIF.
Common mistake: Using LEFT or MID on a date to cut out the month. The cell holds the number 45366, not the text you see.
The answer
- B2
=MONTH(A2)
