Edit a cell without retyping it
Step 1 of 6
Typing in a cell replaces what's there. To change just part of it, open the cell for editing first: press F2 (Ctrl+U on a Mac) and the cursor goes to the end of the text.
Click Continue when you're ready.

Why this works
F2 opens a cell with its contents kept, so you can fix one character instead of retyping the whole entry. Esc cancels whatever you've typed since you opened the cell.
Common mistake: Clicking in a cell and typing straight away to fix a small typo. That replaces the whole entry; press F2 first to edit it.
The answer
- Edit the active cellF2
- Cancel the entryEsc
- Confirm and move downEnter
- Confirm and move rightTab
Select the cell and press F2 (Ctrl+U on a Mac). The cursor goes to the end of the contents so you can change just part of it.
