SUM skips text that + can't
In B7, add up the sales in B2:B6. Aalborg hasn't reported yet and says n/a, so use SUM, which skips text, rather than adding the cells with +.
| A | B | C | D | E | F | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Store | Sales | ||||
| 2 | Aarhus | 420 | ||||
| 3 | Odense | 310 | ||||
| 4 | Aalborg | n/a | ||||
| 5 | Esbjerg | 260 | ||||
| 6 | Vejle | 380 | ||||
| 7 | Total | |||||
| 8 |

Why this works
SUM adds up the numbers in a range and skips text and empty cells, so n/a in B4 is simply left out: 420 + 310 + 260 + 380 = 1,370. =B2+B3+B4+B5+B6 would return #VALUE!, because + has to turn every cell into a number and can't do that with n/a.
Common mistake: Adding cells one by one with +. A single text cell in the list turns the result into #VALUE!.
The answer
- B7
=SUM(B2:B6)
One of the cells holds text, and + can't add text. SUM skips text cells, so =SUM(B2:B6) works.
