Excel tests for job applications

iMocha Excel test practice

iMocha is a skills assessment platform that employers use to test candidates before an interview, and Excel is one of the skills it covers. This practice test gives you 20 spreadsheet tasks in 25 minutes, with a strong dose of the text and data clean-up that office and operations roles ask for, typed as real formulas in a live grid.

What the iMocha Excel test checks

iMocha's Excel tests are put together by the employer, who chooses the topics and the level. A test can mix multiple-choice questions about Excel with hands-on tasks, so you need to know what the formulas do and be able to write them.

Alongside the usual counts, sums and lookups, these tests often look at how you handle messy data: joining and splitting names, cleaning up codes and phone numbers, and counting or adding up rows by part of a word. This practice test puts extra weight on that.

How this practice test works

You have 25 minutes for 20 questions. They start with COUNT and COUNTA, move through text formulas such as RIGHT, SUBSTITUTE, LEFT with FIND, TRIM and PROPER, and finish with wildcards in COUNTIF and SUMIF and an AVERAGEIFS with two conditions. Each question has its own small sheet, written for this test only.

Click the answer cell, type your formula and press Enter, as in Excel. Nothing is marked until you hand in. Afterwards you see your score, the questions you missed and the lesson or function page that teaches each one.

How to prepare

Take the free preview of the first 10 questions, then practice whatever slowed you down. Text formulas are where most people lose time, because one missing quote or a wrong position number gives the wrong answer. Write each one out on a small example first, then take the full test against the clock.

PracticeExcel is not affiliated with iMocha, and this is not iMocha's test. We wrote every question ourselves to practice the same skills, so a good score here means you know the formulas, not that you have seen the real questions.
