What the TestGorilla Excel test checks

On TestGorilla the employer builds the assessment from a library of tests, so the Excel part sits next to other tests, such as cognitive ability or another software skill. Each test is short and has its own timer, which means there is little time to think twice about a formula.

The Excel questions range from basic totals and averages to conditional logic and lookups, and harder versions go on to multi-condition formulas and data that has to be combined before it can be summed. This practice test follows that range.

How this practice test works

You have 20 minutes for 20 questions, so a minute each. The first questions are quick ones on SUM, AVERAGE, MAX and MIN; the last few need XLOOKUP, a two-way INDEX and MATCH, SUMIFS with a limit in a cell and a SUMPRODUCT with a condition. Each question has its own small sheet, written for this test only.

Click the answer cell, type your formula and press Enter, as in Excel. Skip anything that takes too long and come back to it. Nothing is marked until you hand in, and the result shows your score, the questions you missed and where to practice each one.

How to prepare

Speed matters more here than on most tests, so practice until the everyday formulas take seconds: SUM, AVERAGE, IF, COUNTIF and SUMIFS. Then take the free preview of the first 10 questions in 10 minutes. If you finish with time to spare, take the full test; if not, practice the basics again first.

Not affiliated with TestGorilla

PracticeExcel is not affiliated with TestGorilla, and this is not TestGorilla's test. We wrote every question ourselves to practice the same skills, so a good score here means you know the formulas, not that you have seen the real questions.
