# **The CHOOSE function**

Returns the value at a numbered position in a list of arguments.

## **Syntax**

```
CHOOSE(index_num, value1, [value2], ...)
```

<dl><dt>**index_num **</dt>
<dd>Which value to return, from 1.</dd>
<dt>**value1 **</dt>
<dd>The first value.</dd>
<dt>**value2 **(optional)</dt>
<dd>More values, up to 254.</dd></dl>

## **Examples**

B1`=CHOOSE(<sup>1</sup>2,<sup>2</sup>"Small",<sup>3</sup>"Medium",<sup>4</sup>"Large")`

**In plain words:** Take <sup>1</sup>item number 2 from the list <sup>2</sup>Small, <sup>3</sup>Medium, <sup>4</sup>Large.
